Bebo launches teen drama series

LONDON - Bebo is to broadcast a drama series that follows the life of a British teenager, called Sofia's Diary.

'Sofia' will interact with the Bebo social networking community to drive traffic to the drama series, posting daily video and text updates on her profile.

Bebo launched a similar series earlier this year, , which attracted over 3m views in its first eight weeks.

will combine real events with fictional stories, and viewers will get the chance to influence the storyline.

Joanna Shields, president, international at Bebo, said: "For an audience that's spending less and less time in front of traditional media, Sofia's Diary presents a new form of entertainment that makes the audience an integral part of the show."

'Sofia's Diary' was originally launched in Portugal in 2003 and is still running, attracting 200,000 visitors per month online with over 19,000 mobile subscribers. Four series of the show have been broadcast on Portuguese TV channel RTP2.

The US, Germany, Brazil, Chile, Turkey and Vietnam all have their own versions of the drama series. The UK version is written by Bafta winner Danny Stack, and produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.
