The bears are back in town: Heathrow's endearing teddies return in second Christmas campaign

Heathrow has brought back its teddy bear characters, Doris and Edward Bair, for a second Christmas campaign created by Havas London.

The two-minute film tells the 50-year story of the relationship of Edward and Doris, who meet in 1967 when she is an air stewardess and he a passenger.

The pair are shown continuing to meet again at Heathrow at Christmas time over the years, with a second and then third generation of bears eventually appearing in the scenes.

The spot was directed by Dom&Nic through Outsider Productions, with animation by The Mill. It is soundtracked by Petula Clark’s 1966 hit Couldn’t live without your love.

It was shot in Heathrow’s Terminal 1, which was closed in 2016 ahead of redevelopment. British Airways contributed an aircraft from its predecessor, BOAC, along with authentic crew uniforms and other historical details.

The film will run on YouTube, social channels, programmatic video, video-on-demand and digital out of home.

Ross Baker, Heathrow’s commercial director, said: "After an overwhelming response across the globe to Doris and Edward last year, we had to bring these lovable bears back to our screens.

"We hear from our passengers that there is no greater feeling than being wrapped in the arms of a loved one at Christmas. We wanted the advert to capture this unique feeling and make people feel even more excited to welcome friends and family this festive season."
