BBC's licence fee income rises by £100m

LONDON - The BBC's licence fee income increased last year by 4.6% to £3.24bn, equating to a rise of £100m year on year.

This increase was created by a 0.75% growth in the number of households with a television, along with last year's settlement allowing the BBC to raise the licence fee by 1.5% more than inflation.

The figures are contained in the public broadcaster's annual report, to be published on July 3. According to reports, it will show the cost of BBC One is £1.4bn, nearly £600m more than it reported last year.

In the company's previous annual figures, spending on the channel was reported as £840m but on a revised basis this figure would have been £1.295bn.

The BBC Trust has included costs of news-gathering, marketing and other overheads in the BBC One budget for the first time.
