The deal will see a localised version of the show produced by French companies R&G and ACT 4, and the BBC's production team and the producer of the UK show Chris Cowey.
The French show debuts tonight with performances from Robbie Williams, Indochine and Carla Bruni. It will also feature the French chart Syndicat National des Editeurs Phonographiques, with performances from national and international artists.
TOTP France will be hosted by Ness, former presenter of 'Exclusive', French channel TF1's music show.
Yves Bigot, head of variety and entertainment at France 2, said: "[Top of the Pops] is the world's leading chart reference. It was conceived in an explosion of rock 'n' roll in 1964 and has charted musical history as it has happened for nearly four decades. It has a reputation and pedigree unparalleled by any other music show and access to some of the biggest music stars on earth -- and we want to bring this to France 2's audience."
Local Italian, German and Dutch versions of 'TOTP' are already broadcast to their respective audiences. The UK show is transmitted to 112 countries around the world.
As with other local versions of 'TOTP', the UK set has been recreated for the French broadcast. This means performances of artists recorded at any of the studios can be shared across each market.
