BBC Worldwide revealed today that programme exports for its March ending financial year have reached record levels, and are up 16% on last year's figure of £148.4m to £171.8m.
The Weakest Link alone is expected to make the BBC more than £50m over the next four to five years.
The announcement was made on the eve of BBC Showcase, the world's largest TV programme market hosted by a single broadcaster. The event, which is being held in Brighton this week, is expected to generate more than £40m for the broadcaster.
Some of the highlights of the showcase will include a new travel show from Michael Palin and a children's action series called Ace Lightning.
Buyers will also witness the launch of BBC Worldwide's interactive TV service for digital platforms such as Top of the Pops Interactive and BBC News Interactive.
Rupert Gavin, BBC Worldwide CEO, said: "No other broadcaster in the world has the range of programming, in terms of quality and diversity, to attract so many international buyers for such an event."
