BBC Three kicks off autumn schedule with Ralf Little comedy

LONDON - BBC Three kicks off its autumn schedule with 'Massive', a comedy series about Manchester's hottest new record label, starring 'The Royle Family' actor Ralf Little and comedian Johnny Vegas.

The series follows characters Danny and Shay who ditch their boring temping jobs to set up a record company called Shady Records. Along the way they pluck a girl band from obscurity, get sued by Eminem and get lost in the Pennines, where they find the new Oasis.

BBC Three's comedy offering also includes a new sketch show called 'The Wrong Door' which is set in a parallel universe, and 'Coming of Age', a new sitcom looking at the world of a group of sixth-form students living in Abingdon as they enjoy the end of their adolescence.

BBC Three's autumn line-up also includes spin-off drama 'Spooks: Code 9', which is set in 2013 with Thames House replaced by regional MI5 Field Offices.

It follows six young new recruits as they try to protect Britain's future after London is evacuated following a nuclear bomb and the country's power base has shifted north.

The series is being supported by a raft of interactive elements including a viral marketing campaign using face-mapping technology which allows people to place themselves in the action and feature in a video of a high-pressured undercover operation.

The first episode of Spooks: Code 9 was  broadcast on August 11, and had an average audience of 810,000 (3.8%) between 9pm and 9.50pm. The next episode on August 17 had 703,000 (4%), making the show the most watched multichannel show by a wide margin on both nights.

BBC Three's current affairs offering includes 'Jack: A Soldier's Story', which sees reporter Ben Anderson accompanying 24-year-old Lance Corporal Jack Mizon as he faces an eight-hour battle with the Taleban.

Factual programmes on the schedule include 'World's Strictest Parents', which sends British teenagers to live with strict parents in places such as India, Ghana and Jamaica.

'Last Man Standing' returns for a new series testing the strength, stamina and skill of six athletes in ancient tribal sporting festivals in remote locations around the world.

BBC Three is also following the story of YouTube sensation Bryony Matthewman as she attempts to create a user-generated zombie movie by Halloween this year.

It commissioned Hat Trick productions to follow all aspects of Matthewman's production with online documentary coverage consisting of two episodes per week over a 17-week period. Hat Trick will also deliver a 30-minute TV programme telling the full story from initial video post to red carpet premiere.

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC Three, said: "The young audiences we target have responded really positively to the changes we've made to BBC Three this year.

"The Autumn season is about maintaining this momentum through high-quality home-grown comedy, drama, factual and current affairs."
