BBC News gets a new look from Lambie-Nairn

LONDON - Lambie-Nairn has been charged with redesigning the on-air look of the BBC's flagship national and regional news bulletins.

The new look will feature a globe surrounded by pulsating rings against a white backdrop. However, it is being described as an evolution rather than a revolution, and the familiar red colouring, theme tune, font and globe image remain.

The redesign is part of plans by the corporation to unify its news output across television, radio and online. It will also include the end of the News 24 brand, which will be renamed the BBC News Channel. Global channel BBC World will become BBC World News.

The new imagery will appear on screen from April 21. It follows a revamp of the in March. The BBC has confirmed that it has spent £550,000 on the new-look BBC News -- £250,000 for the network news and £300,000 for the news of nations and regions.

The Sunday Times reports that the rebranding was being worked on by Anna Gorman, the wife of former Ofcom chief executive Stephen Carter, now working as an adviser to Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
