BBC lands iPlayer on Blinkx search engine

LONDON - Blinkx, the video search engine, has partnered with the BBC to make all iPlayer content accessible through its site.

The partnership will enable people searching on Blinkx to access BBC shows such as Eastenders (pictured), Torchwood and Six Nations Rugby which are available on the BBC’s video on demand service, iPlayer.

Blinkx users will be able to view previews of BBC iPlayer content before clicking-through to the corporation’s service to watch the full version.

Ashley Highfield, director of future media and technology at the BBC, said the move was part of the BBC’s policy of making content as widely available as possible within the UK.

Recently, the corporation made iPlayer available on Virgin Media’s cable TV platform.

Blinkx has built partnerships with 220 partners and claims to have 18 million hours of video available to search.
