BBC World has secured a three-hour block on BBC America, replacing half-hour bulletins. It marks the first time BBC World News has broadcast for three hours straight in the US.
The first BBC World News block goes out from 3am to 6am and the second from 6am to 9am. Previously, bulletins lasting 30 minutes aired at 6am, 7am and 8am.
Jeff Hazell, BBC World's director of distribution and business development, hinted at a move to launching a 24-hour BBC World News channel in the US.
"The US is a major focus for us and this new agreement with BBC America demonstrates BBC World News' commitment to bringing unbiased, trustworthy news to audiences in US.
"We also hope this new programming block will help us further increase the US audiences demand for the BBC World News channel 24/7," he said.
Each morning, the broadcast will have the latest news headlines, studio interviews and in-depth analysis as well as 'World Business Report' and 'Asia Today'.
Kathryn Mitchell, BBC America's general manager, said: "It was important to us that we be able to extend our news block for viewers who demand the reliable, world renowned global news coverage from BBC World News."
In the last two years, US interest in international news has increased by 40% according to research by the PEW Research Centre.
