BBC in Glasto first with live streaming of Franz Ferdinand

LONDON - Franz Ferdinand and Orbital, who bow out at the event, are two of the bands whose performances at Glastonbury this weekend will be streamed live and in full on the BBC website for the first time.

They are among 12 performers whose sets will be streamed live and in full at the BBC's . Others include Muse, Lostprophets, Elbow, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Basement Jaxx.

It is one of several moves that the corporation has made to improve online coverage of the country's most famous music festival. Other features include an MMS service, which will see producers and presenters able to take and send pictures on a mobile phone and then send them direct to the BBC website, where they can be online within minutes. This to be backed with Wap and a PDA service aimed at the home rather than festival audience.

The live music streaming is being produced by , and will be available in narrowband and broadband.

The BBC plans to keep a package of highlights online for a month after the event, which will allow those who didn't attend to watch, as well as allow those who are unable to remember what they've seen to have their memories refreshed.
