Last Tuesday, 'EastEnders' averaged 10.1m, giving it a 51.3% share in the same slot. This week, it could only reach a peak of 6.9m or 36.9% between 7.30pm and 8pm, averaging a share of 34.6%.
It was beaten by an hour-long edition of 'Emmerdale' at 7pm with 6.9m or 39.7%.
'EastEnders', which started in 1985, used to be the most popular show on television, but is now regularly beaten by a revived 'Coronation Street' on ITV1.
It could not come at a worse time for the show as scriptwriters have been publicly criticised and Leslie Grantham, who plays Dennis Watts, was exposed in an internet sex scandal in a tabloid newspaper, prompting arguments with the rest of the cast.
BBC One has questioned unofficial overnight ratings and a spokesperson claims it achieved 6.8m or 36%. Barb audience figures released on Thursday will decide the show's exact ratings.
