Associated sets out new digital strategy

Associated Newspapers is beefing up the digital sales resource of its national newspapers.

Each of its titles, which include the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, is appointing a head of digital sales as the company looks to bring more responsibility for sales on its newspaper websites into each individual title.

Previously, digital sales were handled by Associated New Media, which forms part of the new Associated Northcliffe Digital operation.

A senior Associated source said: "We've done most of our digital sales through Associated New Media, but we want to have a head of digital in each of the newspapers so they can go to agencies to talk about it."

Associated's rival News International is reviewing how it manages digital sales, with the creation of a specialist unit being one option. However, Associated is committed to selling each of its titles and websites separately.
