Heney takes over the role from Valerie Fairnie and will help to drive forward the business at the venue, following an 18-month refurbishment completed in July 2012.
"I am thrilled to be joining the team in developing the business of this stunning venue," said Heney.
"The restoration has created some really exciting spaces which are attracting a lot of interest from corporate and event organisers, and my challenge is to make sure that everyone who comes here has a fantastic experience.
"This is a dream job for me and I am really looking forward to being a part of the next chapter of this building’s history."
Most recently Heney worked as group corporate sales manager at Buccleuch Estates, managing the development and sales of a new project to open up four historic venues within the estate of the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry for corporate events.
She has also worked at Heritage Portfolio, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Prestige Scotland at the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Radisson Blu in Galway and with Heritage Hotel Group in New Zealand.
Shona Clelland, general manager, said: "Katy is a welcome addition to our team, bringing as she does a depth and breadth of expertise in the conferences and events sector. We have ambitious plans for the venue and in her new role Katy is well placed to support us in taking Assembly Rooms Edinburgh to the next level of its development."
