The grocer plans instead to cut prices on 5,000 products by Easter on top of the 7,500 price cuts it announced in January. It will ensure that 12,500 prices across the store will be lower than they were at the start of the year.
Asda is not the only supermarket focusing its efforts on price-cutting to attract cash-strapped consumers. Tesco has announced plans to drop prices on 3,000 lines including cutting the price on hundreds of frozen-food lines to £1.
The initiative is part of a wider push by Tesco to promote its ‘value' credentials as it fights for market share with retailers such as Aldi, Lidl and Asda.
Asda, meanwhile, is also launching its own ‘Saving You Money' TV channel on YouTube, which will allow customers to share money-saving tips and offer each other advice on how to cut their energy bills and reduce food waste.
