Anheuser-Busch demands 120 days grace before making media payments

LONDON - Drinks manufacturing giant Anheuser-Busch is attempting to extend its payment period for its media suppliers to 120 days, as opposed to the standard 30 days in the UK.

It made the decision following its acquisition of InBev at the end of last year. The company wants to adopt InBev's payment policy for media supplier invoices and has said it will only distribute payment on the 4th and 19th of each month.

The company has asked its suppliers to notify it in writing if they can't adhere to its terms. It also states ‘we may have to consider an alternative supplier' if these terms are not agreed.

Marina Palomba, legal affairs officer at the IPA, says it is ‘appalling when big corporations bully smaller companies and agencies into accepting unfair terms'.

She said: ‘This is happening more frequently and it is causing insurance companies to stop agreeing to insure media suppliers against late or failed payment.'

Anheuser-Busch said while it ‘recognized these terms may be difficult for some suppliers, they are consistent with standards used by other multinational companies'.
