Angel Delight to launch ice-cream variant on Facebook

Premier Foods will launch a 'whisk and freeze' variant of its Angel Delight powdered dessert exclusively through Facebook.

The food company will roll out the product online long before it hits stores, and has begun giving away 45,000 samples to consumers who 'like' the product on Facebook. It will then sell it through online channels, and if successful, will launch it through retail outlets in 2012.

The vanilla-flavoured powder must be whisked with milk or juice, before extras such as strawberries and toffee sauce are added. The mixture is then frozen to create ice cream, without the need for an ice-cream maker. 

Premier Foods is also encouraging fans to suggest recipe ideas on Facebook, with users able to vote for their favourite creations.

To support the social media activity, an Angel Delight-branded ice-cream van will tour the UK this month, offering samples of the product.

Earlier this year, Heinz also opted to launch a product via social media. It rolled out a limited-edition balsamic vinegar-flavour tomato ketchup, which consumers could buy through Facebook.
