Amazon.com marketing chief quits

NEW YORK - Amazon.com's marketing chief David Risher is to leave the company next March after five years with the online retailer.

He has not announced his future plans but, having sold shares in Amazon.com worth around £20m, he is unlikely to be worried about his immediate future.

Risher's responsibilities in marketing have been assumed by Diego Piacentini as part of a company-wide restructure. Piacentini heads worldwide retail and marketing at Amazon. The "worldwide" tag has been added to all of Amazon's new divisions.

Risher will oversee the worldwide application software division until he leaves. He joined in 1997 from Microsoft, prior to Amazon's initial public offering.
