Alterian moves into hosted services with MarkIT acquisition

LONDON – Alterian has launched a number of hosted data analysis services under the banner of Alterian Connect after acquiring developer MarkIT Information Services.

Alterian has moved the MarkIT team over to its Newbury offices to form the Alterian Connect Services division. It paid £606,000 to acquire the profitable company, which is being integrated into Alterian without any redundancies.

The launch of Connect provides global, web-based access to Alterian's technology without end clients or partners having to manage its administration, upgrade and maintenance at their own sites.

Alterian CEO David Eldridge said: "This is a very positive move for Alterian and our business partners. Through the acquisition of MarkIT, Alterian will make available to our partner base additional specialist skills to help accelerate penetration of their customer and prospect base with Alterian-based solutions."

The acquisition of MarkIT comes after the firm has been an Alterian partner for seven years. Its other clients includes Bradford & Bingley and The Tote.

Alterian's client list includes Merrill Lynch, the Daily Telegraph, Premier Farnell, Amnesty International and Vodafone.

Alterian sells its visualisation-led database marketing suite to end clients via business partners and its technology is used by marketing services companies Experian, GB Group, Vertis and others in their own products and services.

The suite is a set of software applications for database marketing to help improve customer insight, including campaign manager, analytic reporting, data discovery and visualisation.
