Ali G dropped from government ads for being too uncool

LONDON - An advertising campaign featuring TV comic creation Ali G, aimed at attracting young men to become teachers, has been dropped because the fictional rapper from Staines is seen as naff and uncool.

The Teacher Training Agency had planned to use Ali G in a 拢7m campaign, which had been due to break next month, but research among the target age range showed that he did not appeal to that audience.

The ads were set to appear across TV, posters and cinema as well as in men's magazines and on beer mats in an attempt to address the imbalance in the numbers of men and women teachers.

The TTA is said to be particularly concerned with the numbers of male primary school teachers, because only one in six teachers is male.

The TTA agency of record is McCann-Erickson Manchester, which last year created the "Those who can, teach" campaign, which aimed to convince young people that teaching is a challenging and rewarding career choice.
