The website also asks for support from users to help it gain carriage deals with US cable and satellite firms. The channel's Arabic-language version is currently available in the US through the Dish satellite network and its English-language version is aired on a small number of cable channels.
The Doha-based TV network is also launching , a move that coincides with its seeking permission from Canada's Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to broadcast its channel on cable and satellite.
Again, the Canadian website asks users to email their cable and satellite companies to ask them to carry the channel.
Al Jazeera is backing the web launch with a series of press ads in publications including the Globe & Mail in Toronto and The New York Times.
