Damion Angus, managing director of Montgomery has become the new vice chair. Byrom, a member of the AEO Council since 2008, started his career in consumer publishing with Haymarket before moving to Reed Exhibitions, rising to head of marketing across a broad portfolio of trade events. In 2003 Byrom joined the BDC and following the demerger from the BDC Group in 2009, he became managing director of the newly created Upper Street Events. In 2014 he undertook a private equity- backed MBO of the business.

On accepting the role of chair, Byrom said: "The team at the AEO is very focused on providing maximum value to the membership. The depth of support we have in the various working groups has never been greater and so I am excited to be in a strong position to support these activities through my tenure. I am also looking forward to developing one or two new initiatives for members under each of the Insight, Community, Talent and Representation pillars that will enable all the people working in the member companies to benefit further from AEO activities."

Angus started his career in the events industry working for Single Market Events. He subsequently spent seven years working in brand management developing children’s intellectual properties for TV, video, publishing and consumer products. In 2006, he joined Montgomery Worldwide responsible for developing Montgomery as an ‘umbrella’ brand representing over fifteen different companies.

Chris Skeith, chief executive of AEO, said: "We are very fortunate at AEO to have such a strong council governing the association. Paul and Damion bring entrepreneurial spirit and a wealth of experience in developing commercial event businesses across consumer and trade sectors which will be invaluable in developing AEO activities throughout this coming year."
