LONDON - The Advertising Association's chief executive Tim Lefroy has made a one-off appeal to members to raise £2m in funding.

Lefroy claims the top six lobby groups attacking the ad industry share a budget in excess of £50m, whereas in comparison The Advertising Association has a budget of less than £2m.

Lefroy claimed that less than 15% of adults ‘generally trust advertising' today. He said: ‘We have seen the imposition of 125 new pieces of legislation controlling advertising and marketing freedoms in the last five years.'

In 2010, The Adverting Association will launch the Front Foot foundation, which aims to work as a single authoritative source for the industry.

Lefroy said The Advertising Association currently has the difficult task of raising funds for the foundation.

He said Advertising Association figures show the UK ad industry was down 17% in the first half of 2009.
