International charity ActionAid, which supports women and children in extreme poverty, is staging a 'toilet takeover' as part of its activation at this year's Latitude music festival.

The charity is aiming to highlight the work it is doing to improve access to toilets, showers, sanitary products and education for girls and women.

The activation, which marks the second year in a row that the charity has had a presence at the festival, will include an area recreating the work ActionAid is doing to improve levels of female menstrual hygiene, as well as a wall where people can post messages.

"We want to break down taboos and give visitors the opportunity to experience the environments and mindsets we want to change," said brand marketing manager Ciaran O Carroll."The toilet takeover gives us the chance to do something immersive that people can feel and touch."

Last year, ActionAid's Latitude activation aimed to raise awareness of the work the charity has done to help rebuild Nepal, following the earthquakes that hit the country earlier last year. Activites included a tent where visitors could make flags, draw henna tattos, practice yoga and celebrate Nepalese culture.

This year's Latitude festival takes place in Suffolk from the 14-17 July.
