192.com expands business data with Thomson Directories deal

LONDON - Online service 192.com has signed an agreement with business information service and database owners Thomson Directories that will expand its listings by 50%.

, which claims 4m UK registered users and has a database of 130m records, will now include additional business data from the Thomson Directories database, which contains more than 2m UK listings.

Thomson Directories will benefit from the partnership through online exposure and branding on the site.

This is the latest move from the internet service to take on rivals in a bid for a position as the leading UK business directory service. This includes Yell.com, which is currently running a TV campaign featuring actor James Nesbitt to promote its internet service alongside its phone and print directory.

Keith Marsden, the company's managing director, said: "The aim is to be the largest online directory service and to do that we believe in bringing together the most comprehensive databases, whether that's for people, or for businesses."

The company relaunched its brand last year and switched its marketing focus to target 50% of its promotional activity at consumers; previously it focused exclusively on the business sector.

The company's first marketing director, Jean Parodi, joined the company last June and confirmed it was looking to work with creative, direct and media agencies on a marketing strategy.

Marsden said the company would announce its new creative agency in April.

192.com's other data resources are UK Directory Enquiries, the electoral roll and Dunn & Bradstreet.
