MTV, CBS Interactive, CinemaNow, Cinequest, Comcast, Disney, eBay, Joost and Twitter are among those on board the Intel and Yahoo venture as content providers. Meanwhile, WPP's GroupM is also involved – indicating that the widgets are aimed at generating ad revenues.

Yahoo will provide consumers with Yahoo-branded TV widgets based on its internet services, such as Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, Blockbuster and eBay. The widgets will enable consumers to watch videos, track their favourite company stocks or sports teams, and interact with friends.

Intel and Yahoo plan to provide developers with the information needed to produce widgets for TV and other electrical devices, advertisers and publishers, to help create new TV Widgets for the Widget Channel.

The Widget Channel will also include a Widget Gallery through which developers can publish their Widgets across multiple devices.
