Yahoo! and New York Times team up to offer premium content

LONDON - The New York Times Digital, the online business of the New York Times, has teamed up with Yahoo! to provide branded paid-for archived news stories to the search engine's users.

Archived stories from the New York Times will be available to visitors to Yahoo! when they search for subjects that have been featured in New York Times stories.

The stories, which date back to January 1 2000, are already available on the New York Times online.

Yahoo! users will be asked to pay $2.50 (£1.72) to view stories -- the same price they are charged on the New York Times website.

Catherine Levene, vice-president of strategy and business development at New York Times Digital, said: "Consumers on Yahoo! News will now be able to access the historical resources available on the New York Times archive at the precise moment they are looking for relevant information.

"It also extends the reach of our brand and high-quality premium content offerings to the large audience accessing Yahoo! News."

The New York Times began offering a number of paid-for services in recent months. These include streamed videos of The New York Times Critic's Choice events, which features interviews with Lou Reed, Martin Scorcese and John Irving.

However, this marks the first time that Yahoo! has offered paid-for content on its site.
