Lazar will report to Jim Schinella, global vice-president of business development for Connected Life, based in the US. He will be based in London and be responsible for Yahoo! relationships with European mobile and broadband operators including BT and Nokia.
He spent 12 years at Turner, latterly as vice-president of wireless and emerging technology, overseeing the global wireless strategy for CNN, Cartoon Network and TCM.
Lazar, who takes the title of vice-president of business development for Connected Life, said: "I want to grow Yahoo!'s footprint as the leading destination for mobile and broadband users across Europe through key partnerships with mobile carriers, manufacturers and broadband providers."
Yahoo! Connected Life has partnerships with companies including BT, SBC and Verizon, as well as a deal with Sprint to provide mobile access to Yahoo! Mail and a deal with Research in Motion to provide Yahoo! Messenger on Blackberrys. It also provides mobile search for Nokia and has a deal with Motorola to provide applications for mobile devices, cars and homes.
Separately, Yahoo! has signed a deal with the blog firm Gawker Media to post stories from Gawker blogs on its news site every day.
The blogs from which the daily stories will be taken are: Wonkette, which looks at politics; Gizmodo, which deals with gadgets; entertainment blog Defamer; and the blog, which covers the New York media industry.
