Yahoo! announced it was creating the new role in April this year, as part of a wider shake-up of its European marketing operation following the promotion of sales and marketing director Fru Hazlitt to the role of managing director of UK and Ireland.
At the time, Yahoo! said that it wanted to strengthen its database through acquisition, cross-selling, improving loyalty and retention, and eventually to increase revenue streams through marketing premium services, such as Yahoo! Personals, to its customers.
Pearson was formerly head of Yahoo! Premium Services in the US, where he developed marketing plans for new premium-service products aimed at consumers and small businesses. He has previously worked for Del Monte Foods and SegaSoft Networks.
At the same time, Yahoo! Europe announced that Patrik Oqvist has been appointed to the new role of head of search marketing. He joins from Air Miles, where he was head of marketing and has over 10 years' experience in marketing and brand management.
Lindsay Biggart, director of marketing for Yahoo! Europe, said: "The expansion of the European marketing team reflects our commitment to become leaders in the field of online marketing and our continued focus on driving product marketing strategies across Europe."
Yahoo! Europe has properties in the UK and Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, several Scandinavian countries, as well a Catalan-language site.
