Yahoo! Europe seeks direct marketing and online chief

LONDON - Yahoo! Europe is looking for a head of online and direct marketing to run a new centre of excellence to promote its subscription services to customers and improve the use of its database for marketing.

The company aims to strengthen its database through acquisition, cross-selling, improving loyalty and retention. This will then enable it to increase revenue streams through marketing premium services to its customers.

Martina King, managing director of Yahoo! Europe, said: "As we continue to grow and difersify our revenue streams it is imperative that we build our marketing team to meet this challenge. This investment in marketing reflects our commitment to become a more consumer-centric business and to build deeper relationships with our extensive consumer base across Europe."

The new post comes as part of an expansion of Yahoo! Europe's marketing team, following a shake-up earlier in the year, which saw former sales and marketing director Fru Hazlitt promoted to managing director of UK and Ireland. Hazlitt replaced King, who stepped up to take on the newly created role of managing director of country operations for Yahoo! Europe.

The central marketing team is being headed up by former marketing director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland Lindsay Biggart, who becomes director of marketing for Yahoo! Europe. Biggart will oversee Yahoo!'s marketing strategy across Europe, including advertising, branding, direct, trade and product marketing.

Other appointments in the enlarged marketing division include Giulio Brunini, Yahoo! Italy's current marketing director, who is moving to London to become head of marketing solutions. Chieu Cao has joined from Amazon.co.uk as online marketing strategist.

Brunini and the new head of direct and online will report to Biggart, while Cao will report to the new hiring.
