Xfm moves to TV for behind-the-scenes show with Sky

LONDON - Alternative music radio station Xfm is extending its brand to launch a new behind-the-scenes TV show on Monday, which will become the flagship programme for Sky's music channel The Amp.

Broadcast every Monday and repeated during the week, the show will give viewers a glimpse of what goes on on and off air at the London radio station, where top bands including the likes of Coldplay and The Darkness have been guests.

Presented by Xfm drivetime DJ Lauren Laverne, the show will include a number of strands named after existing Xfm shows including: 'The Hijak', where bands present and play their own all-time favourite songs; 'Xposure' artist of the week featuring up and coming artists; and the 'Music: Response' top five chart.

The show will also include a feature called 'The Fab Four' voiced by Xfm's Shaun Keavney, giving viewers a run-down of the four things they must see, do or buy that week, from cinema releases to must-wear fashion accessories. There will also be footage from Xfm's live music sessions and celebrity interviews.

The show also takes a tongue-in-cheek look at Xfm's two little pigs called Beaune and Sanchez. The pigs, who live in a hole in the studio wall at Xfm's HQ, will offer their own unique take on life each week. Sky is yet to confirm the schedule but has been running demos over the last week or so.

Steve Regan, executive producer for the Xfm Show on The Amp said: "This is an really exciting leap for us as a channel, with the Xfm show becoming the channel's flagship programme. It's not just a programme for us, it's more of a statement. We love our music and take an interest in popular culture but with a real disregard for any muso pomp -- transplanting Xfm's brilliant taste and sense of humour on to our channel every week is a real honour."

Earlier this year, Xfm confirmed that it was parting company with Swinstead Publishing, on its other brand extension, X-Ray magazine. The station is still in talks with other publishers about further investment for the title. The magazine competed with the likes of the NME and bands such as Radiohead, The White Stripes and Foo Fighters graced the cover.

In the latest Rajar figures out last Thursday, the station revealed a reach of 334,000 listeners, with its Christian O'Connell breakfast show entering the top 10 London shows for the first time.
