X Factor joins forces with high street chains for promotions

LONDON - ITV's talent show 'The X Factor' is linking up with high street chains Comet, Superdrug and Argos to run a raft of retail promotions, including competitions and branded karaoke machines.

The promotion with Comet will run nationwide in more than 250 stores from November to December and will feature a range of 'The X Factor'-branded karaoke machines in promotional bays. It will be marketed through the distribution of eight million flyers in national newspapers and two million flyers in stores.

Superdrug is to run an in-store promotional competition in which fans can win tickets to 'The X Factor' live tour. It will be displayed in promotional bays and will accompany a series of 'The X Factor' software products.

In addition, the Argos' promotion will include a competition promoted in-store with the distribution of 8m flyers. It also offers fans the chance to win 'The X Factor' live tour tickets.

The deal was secured by the licensing division of the show's creator FremantleMedia, which co-owns 'The X Factor' production company TalkbackThames. It is the first time that Fremantle has secured promotions of this kind.

Dominic Burns, vice-president of UK licensing at FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide, said: "Establishing strong retail relationships is the next step in our strategy for continued growth, and promotional deals such as these really use the power of our brands in a unique way and allow our licensees to achieve maximum cut-through in a retail environment."
