Grey was informed on Monday evening that it had been knocked out of the race, leaving WCRS poised to pick up the business. The agency is now in contract negotiations.
A BSkyB source said: "We had two very strong presentations from both agencies and we are progressing discussions with WCRS. We continue to have a high regard for WPP and its agencies, including MediaCom, and that relationship will continue."
The account came into play in October this year when it emerged that the relationship between the broadcaster and its incumbent agency United had broken down, with two senior executives, Robert Campbell and Richard Huntingdon, being banned from working on the account.
The broadcaster approached WCRS directly to pitch for the business, while Sir Martin Sorrell put forward his agency Grey in an attempt to keep the business within the WPP network.
