The sale will see the media company take control of the Digital Marketing Show, Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Britain Means Business and Essential Cyclist.

Worthington Media Portfolio was formed especially to hold the new assets and plans further media acquisitions as the group continues to expand its portfolio. Burton and James will continue to be actively involved in the business.

Doug Ware, chief executive of Worthington Group, said: "Simon and Nick have put together a talented team that has the experience to grow the media business quickly and profitably.

"Additionally it’s a huge advantage for Worthington to have such a depth of digital marketing skills and knowledge within the group. Digital media has been one of the fastest growing sectors throughout the recession and is set to grow rapidly with the improving economic climate."

Burton added: "This is a hugely exciting deal for us. We believe passionately in communities. We believe even more passionately in the power of face to face plus digital to unlock those communities.

"Worthington share our vision and are committed to funding us to acquire media businesses that are underperforming because of their failure to combine live plus digital."

The Digital Marketing Show, which will co-locate with the Britain means Business expo, set to take place on 19-20 November at Excel London.
