World's favourite Australian to be face of British Airways

LONDON - British Airways has recruited Kylie Minogue as an ambassador for the airline, for a reported six-figure sum.

The Aussie pop diva's first task as the face of BA is to launch its Tropical Beaches brochure in Covent Garden, central London, today.

A source from Minogue's record company EMI said that Kylie had been signed as British Airways' new mascot. "They have got her on board to persuade more British people to go on long-haul holidays because the industry has been struggling," the source told The Sun.

The chart topper turned up in a pink sundress today to pose for photographers alongside two male models amongst the sand and palm trees of a specially created beach in Covent Garden. The shoot was organised by events company Cunning Stunts.

The singer's first involvement with BA was in December 2000 when she turned on the lights at the London Eye, the giant Ferris wheel on the banks of the Thames that the airline operates.

Minogue has already appeared in ads for Ford Ka and Eurostar, and mineral water Evian brought out a limited-edition bottle for her Fever tour last year.

Most recently Kylie's most famous feature, and it is not her voice, appeared in a 12-sheet poster ad, as part of a campaign for a new attraction at Madame Tussaud's.

A spokeswoman for BA told Brand Republic: "She will be an ambassador for British Airways on an ongoing basis.

"We've been in discussions with her and we're hoping to do more with her. We haven't got anything else confirmed at the moment. "

The airline remained tight-lipped on whether Minogue would be appearing in any ad campaigns. Its advertising agency, M&C Saatchi, referred enquiries to the BA press office.
