World class events help British Eurosport break 2002 audience records

LONDON - British Eurosport secured its best audiences for 2002 on Sunday July 14 with its coverage of world class sporting events, including the Tour de France bicycle race and the World Rally Championship.

Extensive Tour de France action enabled the channel to maintain its 15% increase on last year's figures, despite sharing the rights with the ITV network.

The channel's record-breaking day saw it attract its best peak audience for the year, with 212,000 tuning into live coverage of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix from Donington Park.

With the inclusion of the WRC Safari Rally, won this year by the Scot Colin McRae, British Eurosport broadcast its best programme line-up of 2002, maintaining an average audience of 194,000, which represents a 120% increase on last year's figures.

Arjan Hoekstra, deputy managing director of British Eurosport, said: "These figures demonstrate British Eurosport's impressive portfolio of sports rights, which continues to provide significant audience growth for the channel."
