The World: Amsterdam - Extreme Sports Channel extends footprint

The Extreme Sports Channel, the action sports broadcaster, is launching in The Netherlands and Sweden. The move will see it increase its total number of households in Europe, the Middle East and Africa to 20 million.

Extreme, which is owned by Liberty Global, has signed an agreement with Canal+'s Canal Digital channel that will give it access to 650,000 homes in The Netherlands.

In a separate deal, the channel will also be available in Sweden through a deal with Tele2Vision's digital cable package, owned by Tele2 AB.

In the past year, Extreme, which launched in 1999, has extended its reach in Europe to cover Poland, Portugal and Greece. The channel is now available in 55 markets and recently launched a mobile content division in the UK.
