The survey, carried out to gain a better understanding of women's interactive habits, unearthed various findings, including that the large majority of women (85%) use the internet daily, with the 25 to 34-year-old age group being the most frequent users.
The internet emerged as the most important form of media, followed by TV, magazines, radio, newspapers and cinema, with outdoor the least important.
The research found that the main reasons for visiting women's websites are time out, a "quick fix" and relaxation, while the main websites visited by women are magazine sites, free email provider sites and social networks.
The survey involved 4,566 respondents who were gleaned from the Natmags-owned online properties, allaboutyou.com, cosmopolitan.co.uk, getlippy.com, handbag.com and netdoctor.co.uk.
Alex Ballantyne, managing director of Hearst Digital, said the research, which is published annually, will prove crucial in helping with its commercial opportunities.
