Wilkinson steps into Beckham's boots to front CBBC Hotshots series

LONDON - England rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson is to front a BBC show training children to play rugby in 'Wilkinson's Hotshots', which follows on from hit football series 'Beckham's Hotshots'.

Like the David Beckham-fronted series, Wilkinson will have to train eight boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 to play rugby as part of his 'Hotshots' team.

Wilkinson will let the children in on the secrets of his game and teach them a whole range of skills, tricks and tips.

The 10-part series is being filmed this summer and will coincide with the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in June and July and will air on BBC children's channel CBBC this autumn.

Wilkinson said: "This is a great initiative and something that means a lot to me. Helping children to develop their skills is very important to me."

The BBC is currently recruiting children who have played sport in a school team, youth club or equivalent. The closing date for applications is April 30.

England fly-half Wilkinson has not played a full England game this season due to injury, although he is due to be picked to play in the Lions tour.

His last-minute, extra-time drop goal in the 2003 Rugby World Cup helped catapult the England team to victory in a nail-biting final against host team Australia.
