At ImJack, which provides services such as secure websites to schools and colleges, White-Smith will be commercial director. He will work with chief executive Sanderson and Richard Addis, head of content and former Daily Express editor.

ImJack is in talks over a number of deals it claims could substantially raise its profile and revenue. White-Smith is joining to develop new business models, but it is believed he will not be leaving NMS for up to three months. White-Smith was group sales director at TMG, but left after its purchase by the Barclay brothers and joined Newsquest in January 2006. He declined to comment.

Newsquest was unavailable for comment.
