What's on TV faces competition from TV Choice in buoyant sector

LONDON - IPC's What's on TV has held onto the lead in the television listings sector, seeing off Bauer's TV Choice, but was down 4.8% in the six months to December to 1,437,650 copies,

Year on year, What's on TV is down 4.3%, with rival TV Choice snapping on its heels after it posted a 5.1% increase in circulation during the period to 1,353,436 copies and was up year on year by 11.6%.

In third place, BBC Magazines' Radio Times saw a moderate increase from June 2006 of 1.1% to 1,082,338, but was down year-on-year by 1.1%.

IPC title TV Times, which appointed Ian Abbott as its new editor in March, rallied in the six months up to December jumping 1.3% to 377,473, but was down 7.5% year on year.

Other highlights in the latest figures for the TV listings sector included Total TV Guide, which was up 8.1% to 101,295 for the six months to December and up 19% year on year.

IPC's Soaplife jumped 5.4% to 97,540 during the six monthly period and was up 15.7% year on year.

Hachette Filipachi UK title All About Soap was also up by 4.3% to 78,061, during the period, and up 11.3% year on year.

Fellow Hachette title Inside Soap rose 3.1% during the six monthly period to 189,183 and jumped 3.4% year on year.

Bauer's TV Quick was the big loser, recording a drop of 6.1% to 246,181 and a year-on-year drop of 13.8%.

IPC's TV Easy was up 3.1% year on year, but down 2.7% period on period to 293,325 copies.
