The Week: People news - Highfield joins Kangaroo

Ashley Highfield, the director of future media and technology at the BBC, is leaving to become the chief executive of Kangaroo, the planned on-demand service from BBC Worldwide, Channel 4 and ITV.

He replaces the interim chief executive, Leslie MacKenzie, and takes over before the service's planned launch later this year. Kangaroo will host more than 10,000 hours of content, catch-up TV and archive programmes from the broadcasters, and will make money from advertising and from charging fees to download some content.
