Last year also saw cinema record its highest summer admissions for 40 years, attracting 53.6 million visitors between June and August, an increase of 5.6 per cent. Mamma Mia was the largest box-office hit, taking £69.1 million at UK cinemas. This was followed by the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (£50.6 million) and the Batman movie The Dark Knight (£48.7 million).
