The agency hopes to join the pitch list after BA decided to review its digital agencies following the departure of three more senior itraffic staff, including managing director Jon Sharpe, last month. Itraffic says the review is purely an annual exercise.
Web Liquid is run by Alain Portman and David Shiell, who themselves managed the airline's digital media strategy at itraffic from early 2000 but left to set up on their own in November 2003.
Cleeve said: "BA has confirmed it is looking for a new agency and we are trying to get the opportunity to present our case. We have been speaking to BA. We have the experience of working with BA and we will be able to offer a very good case. But we do not know what other agencies BA is considering and nothing is confirmed."
However, Web Liquid may well face competition from Sharpe, who departed itraffic along with client services director Matt Gorzkowski and business development director Ethan Segal last month to form a new agency, the name of which will be announced this autumn. Sharpe said he could not comment on whether the new agency would be presenting for the account.
Andy Hobsbawm, who is acting as managing director Europe itraffic and Agency.com in Sharpe's place, said: "I've not had any information from BA that makes me think that anything will change with our account."
Web Liquid picked up the Hilton International digital account after incumbent agency itraffic resigned the work in June because of budget issues.
