Web activity backs Save The Children celeb campaign

LONDON - Celebrities such as Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Rachel Stevens and Jamie Oliver are backing Save the Children's latest fundraising campaign which is being promoted via email marketing and the web.

The stars are sacrificing massages, shoes and pampering sessions in aid of Skip a Treat Week, the charities awareness week running April 25 - May 1 2004.

A viral email campaign asks: "What would you go without to give a child the chance of a better future? A portion of chips? Box of chocolates? Trip to the cinema? Not much is it?"

The email invites recipients to 'Skip a Treat' and potentially win a weekend away. A 'Tell Me More' option on the email links to the Skip a Treat micro site, which can also be linked to via a pop-up facility on the main during the week.

An online 'Donation Calculator' shows how much individuals can raise by skipping various indulgences and instead donating cash to the cause.

Lesley Bestwick, of Save the Children, said: "The micro site and viral marketing are the heart and voice of the Skip a Treat ±±¾©Èü³µpk10. Never before have we placed so much importance on the web to help us with fundraising."

The creative work for the site was by Proximity London, and back-end work was by Good Technology.
