The ad shows fans from Manchester United and Spanish giants Real Madrid gathering before large outdoor screens to watch a match.
It transpires that the game is being played by United's Wayne Rooney and Real Madrid player Gonzalo Higuaín on a computer console.
The ad broke on Sunday, during half-time of the Sky Sports match between Manchester United and Chelsea.
Trevor Uzice, a senior product manager for Fifa 09, said: "This year's campaign is all about bringing football fans and gamers together and we hope the advert will prove very popular with everyone."
