War, Heroes and Tennant lead BBC Two into autumn

LONDON - A drama about the British Armed Forces in Iraq, the third series of US sci-fi series 'Heroes' and a new drama starring 'Doctor Who' actor David Tennant head BBC Two's autumn schedule.

BBC Two is trailing an epic three-hour documentary called 'Fallen' as the highlight of its autumn schedule.

The documentary will remember every single serviceman and woman who has died while serving with the British Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan during the last seven years of the conflicts. It includes the moving stories of famlies who have lost sons and daughters.

Other new commissions include a major new series called 'Oceans', which will explore the hidden stories in the planet's oceans.

'Oceans' will be joined by 'British Style Genius', a new series that will look back in time to explain what makes British fashion so distinctive and influential.

It will feature appearances from Kate Moss, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Philip Green and Stuart Rose.

To coincide with the US Presidential election in November, historian and presenter Simon Schama will present 'The American Future - A History'.

In 'Amazon', explorer Bruce Parry journeys to the source of the Amazon, while finding time on route to tell the stories of the people who inhabit the greatest forest on earth.

On a more personal note, comedian Griff Rhys Jones promises to take a "startlingly honest look at anger in himself and others" in 'Losing It - Griff Rhys Jones on Anger', while former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott will undertake an exploration of the current state of the British class system in 'Prescott on Class'.

'Heroes', the cult sci-fi series starring a cast of characters with extraordinary special powers, will return with a third series shortly after its US premiere.

BBC Two hopes the shorter than usual delay between the show airing in the US and the UK will allow 'Heroes' to avoid suffering from fans using the internet to download episodes in the interim.

'Doctor Who' actor David Tennant, who has yet to commit to the fifth full-series of the sci-fi show, will start with Andy Serkis in 'Einstein and Eddington'.

The drama is set during the chaos of the First World War, with Serkis playing Albert Einstein and Tennant as Arthur Eddington, a prominent British astrophysicist who championed his views at a time when Germans were far from popular,

Other new commissions include a film adaptation of David Hare's acclaimed play 'My Zinc Bed', exploring the nature of addiction, faith and friendship. It stars Hollywood actors Uma Thurman, Jonathan Pryce and Paddy Considine.
