Wallpaper assigns new editor-in-chief

LONDON - IPC has appointed Tony Chambers to be the new editor-in-chief of Wallpaper, the international design, fashion and lifestyle magazine.

Currently a senior member of the editorial team, Chambers is creative director for the publication. He instigated many changes at Wallpaper, including the introduction of a critically acclaimed new design direction and creating the brand identity of the Wallpaper City Guides, published by Phaidon.

Prior to joining Wallpaper in 2003, Chambers spent six years as art director of Conde Nast's GQ where he won PPA Designer of the Year twice. He was previously art editor of the Sunday Times magazine and has won a roll call of design honours.

Fiona Dent, publishing director at Wallpaper, said: "Tony is a design legend in his own right. Not only is he a world class creative director, he also possesses sharply honed journalistic instincts, and an unparalleled knowledge of the pillars of Wallpaper design, fashion, art, travel and the zeitgeist. These qualities, combined with Tony's passion for innovation and success, make him the perfect editor-in-chief for Wallpaper."

Chambers is due to take on his new role as on March 26.

"Wallpaper is unquestionably the most influential design magazine in the world and my time as creative director has been absolutely mega. I am delighted to be given this opportunity and to continue working with the most talented and creative team of journalists. Onwards and upwards," Chambers said.
