Walker Media, which also handles media for The Independent, is understood to have won out against at least two other agencies, including the incumbent Starcom and Maxus.

The circulation of the Standard in February, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures, was 277,552, a fall of 3.69% year on year and a 0.63% dip from January.

Full price sales in the month were 142,513, with bulk sales accounting for 132,682 copies.

The Standard, under the new ownership of Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev, is introducing a range of measures as it looks to woo back readers from the two free newspapers, thelondonpaper and London Lite, and lure in advertisers.

The paid-for title is poised to establish a cross-media commercial partnership in the capital across print, outdoor and radio. Early evening copies of the newspaper are also being given out from key locations.
