Walker confirmed for £70m Barclays account

Barclays has confirmed the appointment of Walker Media to its £70m media planning and buying account, moving the business out of incumbent Starcom.

The account will move at the beginning of June to support a  brand re-positioning that started at the end of 2005.
Omnicom agencies OMD and PHD had also pitched for the outcount, as well as the incumbent.
However, OMD and Starcom are believed to have been removed from the pitch earlier this week, leaving a final standoff between PHD and Walker. PHD was told this morning that it had not won the business.
The appointment follows a thorough assessment of the written and presented proposals from Walker Media, PHD, Starcom and OMD.
Walker Media will provide planning and buying services to Barclays, Woolwich, Barclaycard and First Plus across all advertising channels.
Jim Hytner, Barclays marketing director, said: "They [Walkers] impressed us by devising a hard hitting strategy which was underpinned with some great creative thinking. My team and I are excited about bringing to life some of the compelling ideas they presented for both brand and product campaigns."
