The free event, which will feature music, performances, a parade and a fireworks finale, will celebrate the North East’s Nordic heritage and Viking past.
This will be the fifth year Walk the Plank has worked with NewcastleGateshead Initiative, local artists and companies to create the event.
The carnival will kick off with performances around the city’s Monument and then lead towards Newcastle Civic Centre where the fireworks finale will take place.
NewcastleGateshead Initiative head of culture and major events Carol Bell said: "NewcastleGateshead is a popular place to visit for New Year and the Carnival Parade brings local people and visitors together for a truly unique New Year’s Eve celebration."
Walk the Plank producer Liz Pugh added: "There’s been growing excitement amongst the community groups who have been involved in workshops to make the costumes about the Norse twist to this year’s carnival. It will be a spectacular family-friendly event that will feel quite different."
